The Self-Help Podcast with Deepali Nagrani
Hi, I’m Deepali — a speaker, storyteller, and proud mom to a wonderful one-year-old. I live in Victoria, BC, Canada, hands down the best place to live!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to public speaking. It lights me up in ways I can’t quite explain. I’ve always sought the stage, longing for a space to say something that matters.
Then one day, I realized: if you can’t find a stage, build one.
This podcast is that stage. It was born not just from my love of words, but from one of the hardest chapters of my life. At 32, after one of the toughest chapters of my life, I discovered something worth sharing: my voice, reshaped by truth and tenderness.
Here, I speak from the messy middle of motherhood, healing, identity, fear, hope, and everything in between. It’s not perfect, but it’s real. If you’re craving something genuine, something that feels like a deep breath — you’re in the right place.
Let’s speak the truth. Let’s find meaning together.
Welcome to the stage I built from the feeling of always wanting to be on one.
I’m so glad you’re here.

🕊️ This is just the beginning.
Take care of your body. Be gentle with your heart. And never forget — your story matters.
Hi everybody, welcome back. Can you feel it? Fall is here, the mornings are crisp, leaves crunch underfoot and the world smells like pumpkin, cinnamon and freshly baked bread. So today I want to share 12 cozy habits for fall that help you slow down, feel grounded and just soak up the season. Now imagine curling up with a pumpkin spice latte in your favorite mug, a soft blanket and maybe even a little fall decor glowing on your table. Now, this is the vibe we are going for. Grab your blanket, maybe light a cinnamon or pumpkin candle, pour yourself a latte and let's dive in, Starting your day with warm mornings.
Speaker 1:Call for rituals, right, instead of rushing to your phone, starting with something warm a pumpkin spice latte, tea or a hot chocolate. But here's the key, here's the difference you got to savor it. Don't just gulp it down. Notice the steam rising, feel the cinnamon aroma, the warmth of the cup in your hands. It's just not a drink, it's a moment of mindfulness. Three mindful sips and your nervous system already starts to feel at ease.
Speaker 1:Now let's talk about your space. Fall is the perfect excuse to layer in cozy textures and decor. Think of this a soft throw blanket draped over the couch, candles flickering in warm amber glass, a few pumpkins on the shelf or autumn leaves in a vase. You don't need to redo your whole house, believe me, you don't need to go overboard. Just one cozy corner where you can sit, sip your latte and just feel comforted. Little tiny details, like a scented candle, a plate throw, a warm pillow Just the cozy fall vibe makes your space feel like a hug.
Speaker 1:Now read something that grounds you. This is habit number three. Imagine a pumpkin spice latte in your hand, candle flickering blanket around your shoulders and a good book. That's fall therapy, isn't it? Let aside 15 minutes of a day to read something that nourishes your mind, body and soul. Let aside 15 minutes of a day to read something that nourishes your mind, body and soul. Could be a cozy novel, essays, poetry, any blog or website. The rhythm of turning pages while sipping a warm drink slows your mind and lets the season sink in, keeps you grounded, keeps you in the moment, keeps you in now and, if you think about it, that's all we have.
Speaker 1:Habit 4 is around cooking, cooking with the season and with all the right reasons. Fall flavors are a gift, truly Root vegetables, pumpkin squash, beautiful red crisp apples, wong Ming, spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. They're all false little magic. Try making a pumpkin or cinnamon apple muffins. Or, say, an apple or peach crumble. Even just one seasonal recipe a week can connect you to nature and make your kitchen smell like the season. In fact, the other day I baked some pumpkin muffins and they turned out to be delicious. And a pro tip decorate your kitchen with small pumpkins or a bowl of autumn fruit.
Speaker 1:Cooking then becomes a cozy ritual and not just a chore Movement. At any time, any season of your life is grounding, but with fall even more so. So go for those walks with leaves crunching under your feet, those beautiful orange, yellow leaves. Maybe do yoga with cozy blanket nearby or light strength training at home. Now notice the crisp air on your cheeks, hear the birds preparing for winter and just the anticipation of maybe Christmas, maybe your winter vacation. Maybe think about the time you're going to spend with your family, or take that vacation, or something relaxing that you've been meaning and wanting to do but haven't had the time to do so far, or something relaxing that you've been meaning and wanting to do but haven't had the time to do so far. Moving with the season nourishes both your body and mind, and it feels more like play than exercise, and there's something so comforting and cozy about fall that I'm very, very pain excited during this time of the life, also because it's the start of many, many festivals that are to come. All in all, my favorite time of the year Habit number six is on reflecting and resetting.
Speaker 1:September, as we all know, is back to school, but what greater than building a routine or changing, or bringing a little nudge that you've been wanting to, or just spicing and changing things up? All together, fall is nature's reflection season. Take a journal and ask yourself what do I want to let go of? What do I want to transition to? What do I want to nurture? These are very simple, yet very powerful questions. Now pair this reflection with a warm drink and candlelight. It's like raking your inner leaves, clearing space for clarity, removing confusion and having calm before the winter arrives.
Speaker 1:Now, habit number seven is for dressing with intentional comfort. Your clothes can signal comfort and calm. Soft sweaters, fall color sweaters, cozy scarves, tan, orange are all those beautiful colors. And the warm, comforting socks. Socks which aren't just cute of course they are, but they're also emotional. Armor and layering is false magic. Oversized sweaters, flannel shirts, cozy cardigans, knitted scarf, all of that, just with a pumpkin colored scarf or a cozy blanket scarf, and suddenly your mind and your body feels the same.
Speaker 1:Those 3 pm slumps, those post-lunch slumps that hit harder in the fall Pause, with a peepee or chai or a hot tea, step outside for a few minutes of crisp air, put on that song that uplifts you, or just be in that moment. Maybe take a minute to breathe in, breathe out, see the beauty around. I am someone who is very fascinated with beauty in all big and small things, so I just take my cup of chai and just see outside. Focus on a building next to you or people walking, or that coffee shop right opposite, or just the hustle and bustle of the city, or maybe a child crying or laughing, playing, just anything and everything that brings you to this moment right now. All of this resets your energy in ways you cannot explain. These tiny rituals break up the day and makes work feel lighter and you kind of disassociate with work or you know you're just the world that you're in in a very healing way. You'll return refreshed and ready to tassel your task without stress.
Speaker 1:Habit number nine is embracing earlier evenings. Now, evening to me means family, means just disconnecting from work and having a good time. It's always a good time during fall because the sunsets are earlier, so resist the urge to keep late night screens going I know I struggle with that too all the time and embrace earlier evenings. Maybe go for a post-dinner walk, or, like a pre-dinner walk where you spend some time outside. Dim the lights once you're home. Light a candle, pour your favorite warm drink, read journal or just relax. Nature is winding down, and so should you. It's restorative, cozy and surprisingly joyful. Try that.
Speaker 1:Habit number 10 is sharing seasonal moments. Now, intentional connection feels different in fall. Invite a friend for a walk through the crunchy leaves, or just share a hot chocolate on the porch, or make pumpkin spice treats together, whatever works for you. Small moments of togetherness create warmth that outshines the chilly evenings, and you know what better time to just sit and talk about how exciting and crazy and chaotic but joyful your summer was, or make plans about your upcoming winter days, what you need to shop, what you need to donate, you know what changes you need to make in your wardrobe, or just how do you want to redo your living room, for that matter. All of that, it's so therapeutic.
Speaker 1:Habit 11 is practicing gratitude out loud. Now I thoroughly believe that there is no set time to be grateful for. I think it's a way of living. It's a way of living life that allows you to be grateful for every little big thing and everything that happens in between. Really Fall makes it easy to notice the small joints, the smell of the spices, the beautiful colors outside, the trees changing colors, the leaves all around you, that beautiful lingering smell. Wow, the warm blankets, cozy, socks and just like the supermarkets and all the different stores decking up for the fall season.
Speaker 1:I remember being in the store I think it was Walmart the other day and I was just amazed by the fall decor. I think I was also very amazed and in fact went to Winners for HomeSense and fall decor stuff. It's beautiful Like I can spend my entire day there. Like my husband needs to drag me out of the store at times. I'm that much into it I really enjoy just admiring the beauty and the creativity all around. So yeah, practicing gratitude in these small and big things make a big difference. Say them out loud. Maybe you can say I'm loving the candle glow or I love the crisp air on my face, just the beautiful fall colors outside. I'm grateful for this perfectly spiced latte with a dash of cinnamon. All of this makes a difference. Verbalizing gratitude reinforces the cozy, mindful mood and it trains your brain to notice the little joys everywhere.
Speaker 1:And of late, as I'm growing older in life, I've learned that one of the biggest skill life skill that you can cultivate, that you can develop, is just the simple act of being in the moment and being happy, no matter how difficult your circumstances are. I know the pali easiest had been done then. They've done that and found these advices to be plain stupid. But believe me, I'm training my mind and I feel there's a greater benefit to doing so by just looking at things as how they are in your reality and not like in your imagination, and just trying to be happy in any and every circumstance, believing, having this undying belief that everything is working out in my favor and all the things, good and bad, that life is throwing at me, life is doing for my greatest good. All of this rewires, retrains your mind to think positive, allows you to be happier in otherwise stressful situations.
Speaker 1:Coming to habit number 12, which is last on my list, is creating a nighttime wind-down routine. Now, I know, not all of us have the liberty and the luxury of time to have a nighttime routine, but it's incredibly helpful and you don't need to overhaul or do a billion things before you go to bed. Sometimes all you need is a plain white sheet and a cozy blanket and you hit the bed and you're off, and sometimes it takes some magnesium pill to put you to sleep. But creating a night time wind down routine, especially during this time of the year, is incredibly helpful. It allows you to set your day. It allows you to end your day intentionally dim the lights, wrap yourself in a blanket, sip your chamomile tea or a decaf or your herbal tea, whatever and journal read and just relax.
Speaker 1:We've done enough in the year. There's still some months to go. You still have time to meet your goals. But you also have time, which is this moment, to feel how incredibly good your year has been, or if it has been hard and I relate to that a lot. Just reflect on, even with the hardest things, that you've done. There's so much joy and beauty around, and what better way to end your day than the thought that you have so much to be thankful for this activity? Your nervous system relaxes, your sleep improves and you wake up ready to enjoy the season all over again.
Speaker 1:So yeah, those are 12 cozy fall inspired habits. These are not grand life changing plans, just small, intentional acts that make the fall season feel alive in your body and your soul. And start small. Pick up just one habit this week, maybe two, and let the cozy magic of fall work its way into your routine. I would love to hear your fall rituals. Do you sip your pumpkin spice latte? I know the first pumpkin spice latte of the season is extremely special. For what reason, I don't know, but it is at least to me. Decorate with candles or walk among the leaves. Just drop them in the comments or send me a message. And until next time, stay cozy, soak in the season and remember thriving in fall means slowing down just enough to notice the magic around you. I hope you have a great one. Bye.
